Salsa & all that jazz

So I recently went to a jazz concert. The magic of live music for me is to see the communication between the musicians, when they play.. The connection they have. And it made me think of parallels with social dancing.

Let's use salsa as an example.

As the song the musicians play, the dance has a technical structure. As the solos the musician performs, we dance solo for a little bit too.

When for example piano has a solo - the other instruments support and accompany the pianist - giving him space, observing him carefully and when he is ready to end the improvisation part, they all come back to the song’s structure.

That is what happens in a good dance. A couple dances together -partnerwork & then one of them feels the moment for solo shines…The partners disconnect the frame - but not the attention they give to each other…they play & improvise, mimic or complete each other's moves.. And one of them initiates the return to the “structure” - to the partnerwork.

Do you also see the parallels between the band and dancers? Let us know your thoughts in comments bellow.
